Scott returns, Branson joins City Council

Incumbent John Scott was elected for a third term for Friendswood Council Position 5 after defeating David O’Farrell 1,876-1,318 in the general election May 6.

Scott owns Phoenix Industrial Tire in Houston.

Joining Scott and the other Council members will be Sally Branson in Position 2. Branson defeated Omar Peck 1,740-1,434 votes. Branson will replace Billy Enochs who did not run for re-election.

Branson is branch manager and financial advisor at Raymond James in Friendswood.

Both Branson and Scott took the oath of office after the votes were verified and approved Monday night at City Hall.

Branson’s first Council meeting will be June 5.

Seven of eight charter amendments passed in the election.

Proposition 5 to remove a requirement to post ordinances 72 hours before a first reading failed. The amendment lost by 91 votes, 1,534-1,443.

Votes from the Friendswood general election will be canvassed at a special meeting Monday night, May 15, 2017 at City Hall. Newly elected Council member Sally Branson and re-elected Council member John Scott will be sworn in at that time. Council member Billy Enochs who has completed his service will be thanked and recognized for his work. A reception will follow.

Following the announcement of the winners from the election at City Hall Monday, May 6, 2017, both Branson and Scott took an oath that their elections had been run fairly. The actual swearing in to office will be May 15.
