The 2017 Mitch and Artha Wright Concert in the Park series has been pulling in crowds each Friday night in Friendswood.
The lineup has a mixture of new and familiar artists.
The free performances are every Friday night in May and June at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Park.
Zydeco Dots brings a southern Louisiana sound to Stevenson Park on May 26.
Hamilton Loomis sings the Blues on June 2, followed by Slags (Rock, Pop, and Dance) June 9. Yelba performs with a Latin flair on June 16. Funksion returns June 23 with a combination of Funk and Rock, and Mango Punch plays Pop and Rock to conclude the concert series on June 30.
The free concerts in the park have been named after J.M. “Mitch” Wright and his wife Artha. Wright was the Friendswood Police Chief who guided the department through the sixties, seventies and eighties until he retired in 1989.
He was the oldest living former Chief of Police in Texas before he died in January 2016.
When he was hired, Friendswood was only four square miles, FM 2351 was unpaved and FM 518 was a two-lane road. His wife, Artha, passed away in 2015.
Stevenson Park is located at 1100 South Friendswood Drive.
