A groundbreaking is being held at Independence Park Wednesday, May 31 at 9 a.m.
The park will be closed substantially beginning May 26 as it begins Phase 1 Improvement Project.

The project will include a reorientation of the entrance to the park, relocation and replacement of the existing playground, improvements to the existing pavilion, landscaping, the addition of an amphitheater for special events and additional parking.

The closure to the park will include the basketball court pavilion and the pool.

The current dog park will remain open through a temporary entrance off Pearland Parkway.

Park users will also have access to the park through the Liberty Drive access point with a road block at the park bridge. This will allow park trails to still be used by Pearland residents.

This project is part of the city’s effort to ensure quality parks, recreation and events.

The park project is expected to be completed by September 2018.

The park is located at 3919 Liberty Drive in Pearland.
