The 9th annual Pocket Pear Speakeasy Party will be held June 10, at the Pearland Lions Club. The Roaring Twenties Guys and Dolls themed event is hosted by Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB).

The evening will provide food, drinks, dancing and casino games. The games will include Texas Hold’em Tournament, Black Jack, Roulette and a Poker Tournament limited to the first 50 who sign up to play.

The event is held to raise funds for the Joe Miller Environmental Scholarship Fund which benefits high school seniors in Pearland who are pursuing higher education.

KPB hosts the Pocket Pear event each year in honor of the late Joe Miller, an avid environmentalist who volunteered his time to Keep Pearland Beautiful as well as several other community organizations.

Scholarships are awarded each year in his name and given to high school seniors in Pearland who demonstrate good stewardship of the environment and are pursuing higher education.

In 9 years, a total of $57,000 in scholarships has been awarded. This year, a total of $12,000 was awarded to six high school graduates from Pearland.

Drink sponsor for this year is Del Papa Distributing Company with venue sponsor Lions Club of Pearland.
