The Silence of Suffering
You never complained, never whined.
I never heard you say, “Why Me?”
The pain you kept to yourself, as you smiled outwardly to others.
I knew, however, that deep inside you were crying out.
I saw it in your eyes. In the way you withdrew.
We’d see less and less of you,
always wishing you’d come, but knowing you wouldn’t.
The silence of your pain quietly spoke volumes,
Yet it was we who cried out at your pain. Never you.
Our pain is not silent. We are not brave.
We are the broken ones…and now you are healed.
And while your silence will continue, your pain has ceased.
I love you Charlie,
