Charles M. Dixon, Sr., 88, of Pearland, TX and formerly Crockett, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of April 28.
He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Melody, his parents, Frank A. and Valrie Brown Dixon, and by his son, Gary Michael Dixon.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Dixon; his brother, Donald Dixon of Livingston; his sister, Frances Boultinghouse of Long Beach, CA; his son, Mel Dixon and wife Nora of Cibolo; his daughters, Tamra Evans and husband Bob of Alvin, and Michelle Sundin and husband Chris of Bradenton, FL; daughter-in-law, Betty Dixon of Houston; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Charles was born in the west Texas town of Anson where he grew up on a farm. After a lengthy career of driving long haul trucks, he returned to farming and chose Crockett as a place to enjoy his retirement while raising cattle. His years of driving trucks allowed him the opportunity to travel across the entire continental United States and into Canada. Having never met a stranger, he easily made friends at every stop along the way. He was a devoted husband who spent his last years caring for the love of his life after she suffered devastating illness. His love and care for her was admired by all who knew him at the care center where they lived. Dad, Daddy and PawPaw, as he was known by his family, will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Charles will be held at Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church, at the corner of College and Church Streets in Grapeland, TX on June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank all for their support at this difficult time, including the loving staff of Windsong Care Center and Heart to Heart Hospice. Special thanks to friends, Mr. Tom Jones and Mrs. Jackie Porter who were and continue to be faithful friends to Mr. Dixon in helping his wife and family move forward.
If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Dixon’s name to Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 132, Grapeland, TX 75844, or to Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, 7240 Chase Oaks Blvd, Plano, TX 75025.
