13 retiring from Friendswood ISD

Friendswood ISD said farewell to 13 faculty and staff members who are retiring from the district this year.

Superintendent Trish Hanks will be retired Aug. 31, after 40 years in education. Of those 40, 32 were spent in FISD. While Hanks will have three months left in her contract, new Superintendent Thad Roher will take over the job July 1.

Two other retiring employees also have 40 years in education.

Dorothy Keichler in Transportation has worked in education for 40 years with 35 of those years in FISD.

Debbie Woodson has been in FISD for 23 years in the 40 she has worked in education. She is the director of Career Tech Education at Friendswood High School.

Two staff members have worked 36 years in education. Inclusion teacher at Cline Elementary, Anne Short has worked 25 years in FISD and FHS Choir Director Janwin Overstreet-Goode has been in FISD for 13 years.

Carol Countie in Westwood Elementary Technology has served 33 years in education with all of them in FISD. Windsong Intermediate librarian Susan Brisbay has served 32 years also in education with all of them in FISD.

FHS’ science teacher Theresa Lawrence has served 32 years with 15 in FISD. Sarah Huckabee, Westwood Kindergarten teacher, has also served 32 years in education and spend 26 of those years in FISD.

Westwood Elementary secretary to the principal, Libby Beltz, has spent all 27 of her years in education in FISD.

Anita Flake, art teacher, is retiring from Windsong Intermediate with 20 years in education and 17 in FISD.

Alberto Casas Jr. is retiring from the FISD Maintenance Department after working in FISD for 9 years, his total years in education.

Health Care Sciences teacher and HOSA sponsor Christine Scarpa is retiring from FHS with five years there and in education.

The retirees were recently honored at the FISD End of the Year luncheon and presented with gifts and recognition.
