The Pearland ISD Education Support Center has a new name, The Virgil Gant Educational Support Center.

It now reflects the name of former trustee Virgil Gant who died at the age of 68 in an auto accident in June 2016 outside of Ozona, Texas. Gant served 16 years on the PISD school board, including time as board president.

“I think this would be a fitting tribute given that he spent 16 years as a trustee here, plus was involved in many, many school activities,” PISD Superintendent John Kelly said.

A dedication ceremony was held June 13 at the site. School Board members, District Administration, friends and State officials, including State Representative Ed Thompson attended.

“Today I was privileged to attend a dedication in remembrance of a person that exemplified service. The Pearland ISD Educational Support Center will now forever be known as the Virgil Gant Educational Support Center. An honor well deserved,” Thompson shared with all on his Facebook page.

The Center is located at 1928 N. Main Street in Pearland.
