The City of Pearland Communications Department received the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2017 Government Communications Team of the Year and with it, received four PRSA awards for excellence in communications.
PRSA is the world’s largest professional organization for public relations professionals, with nearly 20,000 members and more than 500 in Houston.
The annual PRSA Excalibur Awards is hosted to honor outstanding professional accomplishments in a comprehensive public relations program and individual communications achievements.
The City received Bronze Excalibur Awards in four areas:
The Crisis Communications and Issues Management Award was given to the Pearland department for coverage and response to the death of Police Officer Endy Ekpanya. The award is given to organizations for success in dealing with an unplanned event that requires an immediate response.
The Reputation/Brand Management was given to Pearland for the City’s work to promote police-community relations and open the dialogue between residents and the Police Department.
In 2017, the Communications Department executed Coffee with a Cop, Ice Cream with a Cop and a video series, Police Talk.
The department received a Video Award for its Angry Tweets web video. The honor is awarded to entities who use video successfully to publicize services or issues, shape public opinion or promote awareness.
The fourth award was in the Webcasts category which recognized the City’s Pearscope live-streaming video series that provides tours of City facilities.
PRSA represents business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.
