To help students in Pearland ISD get ready for a new school year, the Coppinger Family YMCA is collecting school for their annual Operation Backpack project.

The community is encouraged to donate backpacks and school supplies for students who might otherwise start classes unprepared. The drive has begun and will continue through Aug. 11.

There are several drop off locations. Backpacks and supplies can be dropped off at Coppinger YMCA at 2700 YMCA Drive, at Crosspoint Church, H-E-B (288 and Pearland Parkway), Memorial Hermann Pearland, New Hope Church (288 and Friendswood campuses), Pearland Pediatrics and Ref-Chem.

Suggested donations for Pearland ISD students include sandwich and gallon-size plastic bags, lunch bags, hand sanitizer and facial tissue, play dough, paper towels and plates, writing tablets and notebooks, index cards, pens and pencils, and construction paper.

Community volunteers are also needed at Coppinger YMCA during operating hours throughout the drive to helps sort and stuff backpacks.

For more information about the drive, contact Healthy Living Director Sam Gray at [email protected] or visit www.ymcahouston.org/operation-backpack/.

This is the 13th consecutive year the YMCA has hosted its Operation Backpack for Pearland.
