The Pearland Tom Reid Library will be closing for their renovation and expansion project at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The library is planned to reopen in early 2018.
Library expansion for the 17 year old library is needed to meet the needs of population growth in Pearland. Currently, the library, located at 3522 Liberty Drive, is 20,584 sq. ft. and plans are to add an additional 8,174 sq. ft.
This new space will create additional book, study and activity rooms as well as enlarge areas such as the Children’s Story Time area, computer labs, and the Teen Zone. The circulation desk, library offices, and restrooms will also be renovated and the library will have a new HVAC system installed.
The library’s temporary location will be near the tax office at 2341 Galveston Avenue in Pearland.
Starting Aug. 14, patrons will be able to pick up holds and drop off books at the library’s temporary location near the tax office at 2341 Galveston Avenue, Pearland. The site will be staffed Monday-Wednesday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Thursday-Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and will include a small browsing collection. There is also an external book drop available at the site.
All library programming will resume in September at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium, 4141 Bailey Road.
“We are excited to partner with the City of Pearland Parks and Recreation team during the closure to bring a holistic approach to health, both mind and body,” Library Director Lori Purvis said. “It’s a beautiful facility where we hope to cross-train the patrons to enjoy both recreation and library services.”
