To reduce traffic on FM 518/Broadway, an alternate east/west route between SH 288 and SH 35 was established by the Fite road Extension Project. This is part of the City of Pearland’s Thoroughfare Plan underway and the city reports that the project is running on schedule.

Sound wall panels are currently underway on the project. Approximately 800 feet of sound wall will be constructed. The underground drainage has been installed and the elevation will be raised soon as roadway embankment material arrives for the project.

Soon the temporary fencing will be put into place after all current fencing is removed. Concrete for the roadway will also be placed soon.

The project has approximately 2,500 feet of four-lane undivided concrete curb and gutter road being put into place from McLean Road running east and tying into Veterans Drive.

The $4.9 million project was submitted for federal/state funding to the Houston Galveston Area Council’s Call for Projects in 2013, as part of the Transportation Improvement Program and was awarded funding in the amount of $3.4 million.

This amounts to approximately include 80 percent federal funds reimbursed through TxDOT with a 20 percent local match and approximately $25,000 from the Traffic Fund in 2013.

The project is currently on schedule to complete on time with substantial completion scheduled for the end of October 2017, according to city officials.
