A Meal Packing Event to stop local hunger as well as abroad in countries with food need is being held for Pearland as part of the Living the Dream Foundation. The goal is to raise $25,000 and assemble approximately 70,000 meals for both the local community and Haiti.
The event will take place Sept. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at New Hope Church in Manvel. This year’s event is hosted by local organization, Pearland FIGHTS Hunger. Volunteers are needed to work together to assemble the meals.
Free volunteer registration is available at livingthedreamfoundation.com.
At the event volunteers will be assigned to a station where as a group they will assemble food packages that have been scientifically designed to reverse the effects of malnutrition and starvation.
Each meal will consist of the following ingredients: 52 percent soy protein, 21 different vitamins and minerals, dehydrated vegetables and rice. Through the established program created by Friends & Family Community Connection, two-thirds of the non-perishable food will be sent to help Haiti residents, a food insecure country with the most vulnerable and one-third will stay local in Pearland to help those in need in the area.
This program was put together to bring families and friends as volunteers, to teach youth the importance of helping others. The meal packing event is fun, fast paced, purposeful act of love and service that volunteers will remember for a lifetime.
Event sponsors are Farmers Insurance, Med Spa, Reflection Bay Event Center, Standorf Construction Inc., and Cruz N Carz. Sysco is donating the rice. Big Frog Custom T-Shirts is donating a tee shirt for every $25 donated.
To donate, go to www.livingthedreamfoundation.com. According to the organization, just 25 cents can provide a nutritious meal for a child in need.
