Student volunteers are needed for Pearland’s Teen Court, sponsored by the Pearland Municipal Court.
Teen volunteers are needed to serve as jurors for the new school year which will run from September 2017 through August 2018.
Applications are being accepted through Aug. 31.
Volunteers do not have to be from Pearland ISD to serve. Students from other high schools in the area can apply.
After the application is accepted, new volunteers must attend, with a parent, one of two trainings to be held on a Tuesday evening in early September.
The City of Pearland’s Teen Court program is in its second year. Through the program, eligible participants have the option of attending Teen Court for their Class C Misdemeanor violation(s) where teen volunteers sit as a jury panel to determine the sentence of the teen violator.
This program seeks to deter teens from future unlawful practices while providing direct experience in the judiciary system and an understanding of their roles in society. Additionally, local nonprofit community programs reciprocally benefit from the teens performing community service hours.
Teen Court is held at the Pearland Municipal Court every third Tuesday.
