The next class of the Teen Citizen Police Academy (TCPA) will begin on Sept. 11. The 8-week course will arm its students with an understanding of the functions and responsibilities of law enforcement services in Pearland.
The TCPA is open to all 10th-12th grade students, ages 15-19 years old.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in high school, in good academic standing and reside within the City of Pearland.
Classes will be held at the Pearland Police Department on Mondays, from 6 to 8 p.m. The class will continue through Oct 30.
Topics covered will include Law 101, Internet Predators, Drug Awareness Education, Distractive/Impaired Driving, What to Do During a Traffic Stop and Mock Crime Scene Investigation.
Other topics will be Crime Prevention for Teens, Crisis Intervention/Critical Incident, Arrest/Search/Seizure, Leadership Development, Public Speaking, and Critical Thinking Skills.
TCPA came about through initiatives formed by the Pearland Police Department’s Community Outreach Division. This division was formed to meet the needs of the community.
The Pearland Police Department believed partnering with the teen residents benefits the community for the greater good and teaches the young students leadership skills.
