William “Bill” Loudon Himes, Jr., 94, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away Nov. 9, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 5, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to William L. and Elizabeth Zercher Himes. He served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and meritorious award with 3 star cluster. He was married to Mary Lou (Belt) and had 2 daughters. He enjoyed traveling around the world in his capacity as instructor for TWA and Saudia Airlines. He took his wife along whenever he could. He lived in Pennsylvania and Kansas before moving to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After returning to Kansas upon his retirement from TWA, he devoted his time to helping others through his involvement with Rotary, 4H, Optimist, Prairie Village Public Television, Baptist Hospital Board, other civic organizations, and as a deacon at Village Church. At Christmas, he was specially chosen by Santa to represent him by walking through the streets, greeting children, and sending their wishes back to the North Pole.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Himes and his parents.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Grace and husband, Bill, of Friendswood, TX, and Barbara Wood and husband, Charles, of Tempe, AZ.; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Alvin Lutheran Church, 1800 FM 1462, Alvin, TX 77511. Interment will be held at a later date at Houston National Cemetery.
