Alvin Elementary and Bill Hasse Elementary joined together to collect blankets for homeless veterans this holiday season. Children Advocating for the Future of our Veterans is a group of students between the two campuses that has a mission to help raise awareness for veterans. Both schools placed donation boxes at the front of their buildings in hopes that students would donate a blanket for the cause.

On Dec. 7 Michelle Morales, Elishama Ruiz, and Victoria Colunga, students from Alvin Elementary, presented the blankets to LaSondra C. Jones, coordinator of Women Veteran Services to allow their organization to distribute the blanket to veterans in need.

The children were able to donate over 200 washed and folded blankets that were ready to be distributed when they arrived back at their headquarters.

Overall, the blanket drive was a success and they hope to continue the project in future years to continue to support our veterans.
