Morad Kibiri will be the next City Manager in Friendswood. He will follow Roger Roecker who will retire as city manager in April 2018.

Kibiri is the current Assistant City Manager in Friendswood. The job was created six years ago to provide a successor to the city manager when needed. Kibiri was the first to hold the job in the city.

Councilman John Scott made a motion at the Dec. 4 meeting of City Council to have a letter of intent drawn up for Kibiri to be the next City Manager. The vote that followed was unanimous.

Scott reviewed the creation of the assistant city manager job to be able to groom a new city manager to take the position upon Roecker’s retirement, whenever that would be.

“The plan worked flawlessly,” Scott said. “Morad Kibiri has worked hard in his position. He has been an asset to the community and to council.”

Council member Steve Rockey said after the meeting that the vote for Kibiri had been “one of the most satisfying votes in six years on city council” and that this vote saved the taxpayers the cost of a search.
