The end is near for the Fite Road Extension Project. The $4.2 million project is scheduled for a January 2018 completion date.

The project will extend Fite Road approximately 2,500 feet.

The ultimate goal is to reduce traffic flow by allowing traffic to continue on Fite Road beyond where it currently ends, connect Veterans Drive and McLean Road and have new access to Centennial Park, a popular location for ball fields.

Currently the traffic is diverted to Walnut Street, a highly residential area.

The project includes a traffic signal at the intersection at McLean Road, landscaping for right of ways, drainage placed underground, a 10-foot soundwall at the north side, and a four lane undivided roadway with curb and gutter.

According to city officials, this project was one of nine submitted for federal/state funding as part of the Transportation Improvement Program to the Houston Galveston Area Council’s Call for Projects in 2012. It was one of four Pearland projects to receive funding.

The Fite Project will include 80 percent federal funds reimbursed through the Texas Department of Transportation with a 20 percent local match.
