Danny Paul Norwood, 69, of Friendswood, Texas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, August 30, 1948 to Jack Paul Norwood and Betty Jane (Harrod) Norwood. The family moved to Houston when he was in the fourth grade and attended Houston schools. As a boy he often spent summers with his grandfather in Arkansas with a saltshaker in his pocket while he picked fresh tomatoes from His grandfather’s garden.
Dan was very active in photography beginning in his high school years when he was responsible for the Westberry High School yearbook photos as well as photos for other purposes on the campus. He attended Sam Houston State University and Houston Baptist University. He worked with his father learning how to build homes from the foundation up by digging foundations by hand. There was little he didn’t know about building – foundation to roof. He and his father built homes all over Houston and surrounding areas. He worked as a real estate agent and still held his license, having passed the exams for the coming year. He loved to plant in his garden and grew citrus trees, plumeria, hibiscus, and other plants. The palm tree in the front yard was grown from a seed brought back from the honeymoon in California.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, and younger brother, Mark. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Marcella McComas Norwood; mother, Betty Jane Norwood; daughter, Dana Norwood Urbach, husband, Adam Urbach, and three grandchildren, Sebastian, Violet, and Kai; daughter, Chanin Teal Norwood, and granddaughter, Abby Gaile; brother, Larry Norwood and wife, Peggy Norwood, and children John Norwood and children, and Candice Norwood Brawner and husband Brian Brawner and children; brother, Craig Norwood and wife, Eve Norwood, and children Sommer Norwood Jarosewicz and husband Mike and children; Austin Craig Norwood and wife Megan and children; and Tracie Norwood Layton and husband Adam and children; brother Mark’s wife, Renee Norwood Todd, daughters Amber, Ashley, Lindsey, Haley, and Miranda; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 10:30 AM at The First Baptist Church of Friendswood, 111 E. Heritage, Friendswood, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dan’s name to The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, or to The First Baptist Church Friendswood.
The family would like to thank their family, their church family at The First Baptist Church of Friendswood, and their friends for their prayers, love, and support. Your continued prayers are truly appreciated.
