Gordon James Darling, Sr., 97, of Friendswood, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Gordon was born on June 19, 1920 in Wykoff, MN to parents Oscar and Rose (Hanke) Darling.
Gordon retired to Lorraine’s hometown of York, NE after a 35 year career in the Air Force. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in York. He was very active in the York Lions Club and the York Senior Center until they moved to Friendswood in 2006 to be near his daughter and her family. Gordon and Lorraine loved having company and their home was always open for anyone to come and visit and share a meal.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lorraine (Jensen) Darling and his daughter, Pauline Moore of North Carolina.
Gordon is survived by his children, Gordon James Darling, Jr. and wife, Elina of Mobile, AL and Sherry McCord and husband Carl of Friendswood, TX. Gordon is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 8 great, great-grandchildren and also 1 sister, Maxine Goetzinger of Aurora, CO.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200, with Rev. David Miller officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the York Senior Center at 725 N. Nebraska Avenue, York, NE, 68467.
