The Friendswood ISD Adopt a Grant program has begun for 2018 and all grants have been posted online recently at www.fisdfoundation.com.
Grants are requests by FISD teachers for funding to purchase specific items to supplement their students’ learning. The Education Foundation empowers teachers by recognizing and supporting innovative efforts and exemplary instruction. The Adopt-a-Grant program allows teachers to request tools and resources to supplement their students’ learning without having to go through traditional channels.
“The Education Foundation is dedicated to providing effective opportunities for all students to pursue their full potential. Through the Adopt-a-Grant program, students are given access to resources, technology, and tools that the school district would otherwise not be able to procure,” Foundation Executive Director Paige Ridout said.
Local businesses and community members have donated to the Foundation’s Adopt-a-Grant program for several years and helped the Foundation raise over $1 million in funding for teachers and students.
This year 720 grants are offered. By the end of the first week online, more than 34 grants had been purchased. Grants can be chosen by campus, teacher or price.
The purchases of grants last year helped the Foundation to give more than $185,000 given to teachers and students in 2016-2017.
