City Hall is expected to have its staff move back into their offices this month as the City Hall Complex Renovation Project is approximately 70 percent finished.
Re-occupancy is expected in late February or early March.
At that time, City Council meetings will resume there also.
City Hall is located at 3519 Liberty Drive in Pearland.
The renovation project began last summer and to date, construction is complete on the ceiling grid installation, painting and tile installation in restrooms. The server room that provides critical services has its work completed also.
The electrical and mechanical systems are currently being reworked for better efficiency in the complex.
This City Hall Complex Renovation Project was included in the 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Program. Its intent was to renovate the City Hall and community center buildings, known as the City Hall Complex.
The complex is home to the City’s Administration, Communications, Human Resources, Utility Billing, Information Technology, Permits, Community Development and Finance departments, as well as the Pearland Economic Development Corporation.
City officials reported that both City Hall and the building formerly known as the Community Center, now the City Hall Annex, are over 30 years old. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems no longer functioned optimally and required frequent repair. Both buildings no longer met current building code requirements for the number of occupants and floor plans did not provide efficient workflow.
City officials are looking forward to having the renovation completed to have a more efficient, modern system that will provide significant operational savings.
