Cecil “Ike” Gerald Clanton, 73, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Cecil was born May 3, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Cecil and Loraine Clanton. He graduated from Neodesha, Kansas in 1962 and attended Kansas State from 1962 to 1964.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on October 27, 1965, serving two full tours in combat in Vietnam and earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal, before receiving an honorable discharge on August 1, 1969.
On March 27, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Rita (Riggs) Clanton, in Boulder, Colorado. Cecil moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1977, and was employed with Shell Oil Company for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, starting home projects and spending time with his beloved family, driving countless hours to attend his grandchildren’s baseball, football, basketball and soccer games and school functions.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Rita Clanton; two sons, Gerald Wayne Clanton and his wife Tiffany of Cypress, Texas, and Bradley Allen Clanton and his wife Denise of Pearland, Texas; six grandchildren; Keith Clanton, his brother, and Anita Clanton, his sister; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Loraine, in 1998.
Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family from 4:00 pm until 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546. The funeral service will follow on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas 77038.
