April is Child Abuse Awareness month, and the Galveston County Children’s Services Board is charged with increasing awareness of child abuse.
In 2017, 746 children in Galveston County were the victims of child abuse or neglect.
In an effort to raise awareness, the Galveston County Children’s Services Board will be hosting an event at Del Papa Distributing Co. at 1220 Gulf Freeway in Texas City.
The county community is invited to tie blue ribbons on the Del Papa fence line as the blue ribbon is symbol of Child Abuse Awareness month on Friday, April 6 at 10 a.m.
“We will be tying 746 blue ribbons, one for every victim of child abuse in our county in 2017. We are inviting community service providers, school staff, organizations, churches and any other interested parties to come join us a for a few moments and tie a ribbon in honor of a victim to raise our voices to speak out against child abuse and neglect,” Jeanette Elias, Board chair said. “Friday, April 6 will be Texas Go Blue Day.”
The event will begin inside the Del Papa Distributing’s main office for a brief presentation at 10 a.m. Parking is available in the visitor or employee lots of Del Papa.
“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Del Papa Distributing for allowing us the opportunity to use the fence in front of their beautiful facility to display these ribbons. This location will provide a prominent backdrop for the message, and Del Papa has also agreed to display information about child abuse reporting on their sign,” Elias said.
