ACC Regent candidates to participate in forum

The two candidates for the Alvin Community College Board of Regents will take questions from voters during candidate forums on April 12 and April 17.

Challenger Lloyd Cox faces two-term incumbent ‘Bel Sanchez on the May 5 election. Kam Marvel and Dr. Jim Crumm will run unopposed for positions 1 and 3, respectively. Current Position 1 regent Bart DeWitt and Position 3 regent Doyle Swindell did not seek reelection.

Winners will serve a six-year term.

Candidates will have an opportunity to deliver a statement during the forums and will then take handwritten questions from the audience.

The April 12 forum will be at 6 p.m. the C.A. Nelson Auditorium located at 2337 N. Galveston Ave. in Pearland. The event is hosted by the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, Pearland Police Officers Association and ONE Pearland.

The April 17 forum, hosted by the Alvin Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce will be at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center, 2925 S. Bypass 35 in Alvin.

Early voting will be April 23 to May 1. Election Day is Saturday, May 5.
