A grand re-opening of the Tom Reid Library will take place Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m.

A ribbon cutting and ceremony are planned for the event. The library has been closed for needed renovations.

The library added an additional 8,174 square feet, offering new areas including the Dale Pillow Children’s Storytime room and computer labs.

The $4.5 million renovation was a joint effort between the city and the Brazoria County Library System and was paid for by a bond approved by voters.

For the re-opening, family fun is planned throughout the day to showcase dynamic library programming. Activities include paper making, 3-D printing, and robotics.

The Star Garrison of the 501st Legion will make a special appearance bringing Stormtroopers, Imperial forces and Darth Vader.

The event is free and open to the public.

The library is located at 3522 Liberty Drive in Pearland.
