Election canvassed, Reed takes oath

A Special meeting of the Pearland City Council was held Monday, May 14 at City Hall at 3519 Liberty Drive to canvass the returns and declare the results of the General Election on May 5.

Mayor Tom Reid issued a Certificate of Election to Derrick A. Reed, Councilmember in Position 2.

Reed was administered the Oath of Office by Judge Dennis Slate.

A resolution was ordered concerning the holding of a General Runoff Election for Saturday, June 16 for the purpose of electing a Councilmember to Position 4.

The regular May council meeting followed.

In new business, the council heard the reading of several ordinances. The ordinances included amending the zoning map of the city for certain properties, amending a contract for disaster recovery and public assistance services, considering unit price bids, authorizing the city to continue to participate in a coalition of cities known as the Texas Coast Utilities Coalition, and ratifying expenditures. A tax abatement agree with Pearland Economic Development Corporation for improvements to be constructed along Kirby Drive was also discussed.
