A viewing party was held recently at Manvel High School to see a local celebrity on television. The star was MHS teacher Ranjani Sheshadri, who was part of the group of teachers chosen to be on JEOPARDY! Teachers Tournament.

The show aired May 11 at 3 p.m.

Manvel HS students, faculty, friends, family and local Farmers Insurance agent Sally Mercer joined Sheshadri to watch in the school’ cafeteria.

Sheshadri is also the recipient of a $2,500 educational grant presented by Farmers Insurance® and the insurer group’s Thank America’s Teachers® program. Farmers Insurance® awarded all 15 Teachers Tournament contestants, including Sheshadri, a $2,500 educational grant to fund classroom projects regardless of where they placed in the tournament.

The two-week JEOPARDY! Teachers Tournament, presented by the Farmers Insurance Thank America’s Teachers program, featured 15 educators competing for $100,000 and a spot in the next Tournament of Champions.

“Ms. Sheshadri is an English teacher on our campus. She is extremely knowledgeable in her content area, and out of everyone on our campus, it really wasn’t a surprise she was selected for this great opportunity,” MHS Principal Bobby Martinez said. “It was an unforgettable experience to see how excited our students and staff were at the watch party for this event. We are extremely proud of Ms. Sheshadri.”

Sheshadri plans to use the grant to build a classroom library of young adult books, new fiction, core non-fiction books and practice materials for AP Language Arts. She will also use the grant to invest in new classroom technology and supplies.

The MHS teacher was the only contestant from Texas in the group.

Through Thank America’s Teachers, Farmers has invested over $4 million dollars in educational grants since 2014. The public helps determine who receives the grants at ThankAmericasTeachers.com. Farmers presents over 200 $2,500 grants throughout the year in addition to the five $100,000 Dream Big Teacher Challenge® grants, which are presented at the end of this year.
