Two councilmembers sworn in, sign council oaths

Re-elected Councilmem-ber and Mayor Pro-Tem Lorraine Hehn and new Manvel Councilmember Larry Akery attended their swearing in ceremonies at City Hall Monday night, May 14. Following the swearing in, they each signed their council oaths of office.

Councilmembers bade farewell to Councilmember Adrian Gaspar who did not seek re-election during the municipal election. Monday night was his last night to serve after six years of service.

On Monday, May 21 Hehn and Akery will participate in the ceremonial oaths before the public at the regular council meeting at City Hall.

In other council news, the members approved a motion to appoint Manvel resident Nicole Mitchell to the Events Board.

Mitchell has volunteered for city activities and was involved most recently at the Easter Eggstravaganza.

The Manvel Economic Development Corporation met recently to hear updates on Big Horn BBQ and Little Rascals Child Care, The two businesses are being supported by Economic Development Corporation funds.

The EDC also continued a discussion regarding a strategic plan to bring in businesses and companies that will benefit the city. The group meets monthly.

The Manvel Public Library has announced that its June calendar of events has been posted on its website for families to plan activities ahead of time.
