William “Bill” Ross Christopher, 90, passed away on May 28, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bill was born in St. Louis, MO on December 23, 1927 to parents Chester and Sallie (Swafford) Christopher. Bill went to school and work on his grandfather’s family farm. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and served in WWII and later the Korean War where he obtained a battlefield promotion to the rank of Sgt. Major. After Korea, he went on to enlist in the Army Air Corps and was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II. While stationed at Fort Benning, Ga, he met the love of his life Bobbie Jean Westbrook. They were married on June 17, 1956. After being discharge from the Army, Bill took several flying jobs and moved around the country for a while before settling in Alvin, TX in May of 1975 where he continued to fly helicopters in the Texas offshore oil patch. He retired in 1993. Bill continued to live in Alvin until he moved to Medina, TX to be closer to his son due to failing health.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bobbie Christopher, and one son William “Bill” Ross Christopher II.
He is survived by his daughter Valerie Ingle and husband Richard, sons, Michael Christopher and wife Marianne, Daniel Christopher and wife Sandy, Robert Christopher and wife Becky, and Steven Christopher and wife Robin, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Round Grove Cemetery, Ponca City, OK 74601.
