A new four-story, 63,400 square foot building recently broke ground in Downtown Friendswood at 505 S. Friendswood Drive. The new $10 million downtown building will feature retail and restaurants on the ground floor and office space on upper floors as well as be the future address of national tenants employing more than 200 persons, according to Economic Development Coordinator Karen Capps.
Tannos Land Holdings III received a $100,000 municipal grant that City Council approved in May 2018.
In construction updates, the new renovated Bergamos Retreat at 313 E. Edgewood Drive will reopen in July with many new amenities. Some of these include a yoga studio, blow dry hair bar, wine bar and café. The spa will also have new spa rooms, Vichy rooms, Himalayan salt cave, a snow room, private pedicure areas, wax only rooms, spray tan room, apothecary and a men’s lounge with whirlpool, steam room and sauna.
Lary’s Florist and Designs’ new construction will also open in July. The new area will be Magnolia Plaza. The two newly constructed buildings will offer 6,250 sq. feet for lease.
Lary’s will offer floral, wedding and events services, as well as interior design. The new store will carry furniture, rugs, lighting and be a resource for local interior designers, Capps reports.
HighPoint Insurance Group’s new 28,725 square foot building at 4300 FM 2351 is scheduled to be completed by September. The second floor will offer approximately 10,000 square feet of office space available for lease.
The Beldon Apartments at 601 N. Friendswood Drive are approximately 60 percent finished and plan to open by the end of this year. The property is set to have 108 single-story units with a mix of one bedroom (56 units), two bedrooms (44 units) and two bedroom with a den (8 units). Other amenities include an office and amenity center, banquet room, outdoor pavilion, great room, library, fitness room, private therapy room, and a 22-seat theatre.
Rancho Mexican Restaurant has a new 5,000 square foot $1.9 million building being constructed on 2131 W. Parkwood Avenue. The opening should be in 2-3 months. The restaurant received a $12,000 municipal grant from the City.
DC Stanley Photography is building a new 6,951 square foot building in downtown. The two-story building will be at 316 Morningside Drive and will have 1,700 square feet available for lease.
“Since 2008, the City has awarded $297,000 to businesses through the Municipal Grant Program, which, in turn has created $28.33 million in taxable value, added 183,187 square feet of commercial space, and created or retained 396 jobs in the city,” Capps said.
