Kenarr Chuchian Matoesian, 92, of Friendswood, TX passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 in Pearland, TX. She was born January 12, 1926 to Mihran Chuchian and Zuvart Sarkissian Chuchian in St. Louis, MO.
The daughter of Armenian immigrants who fled the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian Genocide, Kenarr grew up in St. Louis with her four brothers, Michael, Andrew, Vasken and Vernon. She met her husband, Gregor Matoesian, a WWII United States Marine, in Granite City, IL, and was married in 1950. Throughout their lives, Kenarr and Gregor lived in Missouri, Illinois, Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, and Texas, meeting many new people and colleagues along the way who would become lifelong friends and would be welcomed as members of the family. Kenarr was known for her cheerful generosity to all who she met and brought into the Matoesian household.
In 1970, Kenarr and Gregor settled down in Friendswood, Texas, where their three youngest children graduated from high school. Kenarr was beloved in the Friendswood community as a caring mother and grandmother who always put others before herself and provided unfailing support and love to her children, their families, and their friends for her entire life. Even in her advanced age, Kenarr found the time and energy to help her grandchildren pursue their dreams and celebrate in their accomplishments. She was a lifelong lover of music, and was always thrilled to enjoy the creative talents of her children and grandchildren.
Her legacy is left in the characters of the many children she raised, even those that were not her own. ‘Momo,’ as she was affectionately called, was known for her inquisitive nature, effusive kindness, and deep wisdom cultivated by years of experience and relationships with people from all walks of life. Most of all, she was proud to call herself a first-generation American – an identity bestowed upon her by her parents, who made incredible sacrifices to provide Kenarr and her brothers with a life of opportunity in the United States.
Kenarr was preceded in death by her husband Gregor, and her brothers Michael, Andrew and Vernon.
She is survived by her four children, Gregory Mark Matoesian, Tamara Champlin and her husband Bill, Michele Taylor and her husband Matt, and Matthew Matoesian and his wife Audrey, as well as her eight grandchildren Will, Justin, Sam, Nicholas, Travis, Kenarr, Joe and Stephen, great-granddaughter Harper, brother Vasken Chuchian, and nieces Nancy Hatutian and Jan Krekeler.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N.
