Old City Park is the site of much work that is both completed and on-going.
The park work was shared with council at the July meeting to update them on what is happening in capital projects.
Work in Old City Park began in May and water and sanitary sewer portions of the project have been completed.
The project also encompasses a parking lot with 44 spaces, 1,650 linear feet of sidewalks, and storm sewer. Storm drainage infrastructure installation is complete.
The paving portion has begun. Architects on the project are working on the design for restroom building and pavilion.
In other projects, Blackhawk Boulevard Phase II began in June 2018. Council approved three alternates on the project to allow for construction to go from Friendswood Link to Edenvale. Traffic control has been installed, and construction has begun.
The city has received a detailed report on the pavement management study and are in the process of compiling a request for proposals related to Street Maintenance activities. Staff anticipates the RFP will be advertised and awarded in the August/September time-frame.
Regarding Lift Station 23 (FM 518 near Century Ln.), staff has reviewed the engineer’s recommendation on the wet well and met with the design team to resume design for the project. Staff is coordinating with the engineer on an amendment to the contract and aiming to take before Council at the August meeting. The plan is to go out for bids the fourth quarter of this year.
The Third Clarifier at the Blackhawk Wastewater Treatment Plant is in full operation. The plant has begun the process of a re-rating the plant to acknowledge the completion of the project and the increased wet weather flow capacity.
These activities have been started in Friendswood relative to the band projects associated with the 2013 Bond Program. At the February 2014 meeting of City Council, the council members directed city staff to pursue the 7-Year plan in the bond program undertaking.
