TOUCHDOWN – Manvel’s Ladarius Owens (21) dives over the goal line to help lead the Mavericks to a 62-42 win over Barbers Hill in the Class 5A Region III Div. II bi-district round. Owens had 15 carries for 122 yards rushing and three scores while grabbing three passes for 81 yards and two more scores. Manvel (9-2) moves on to the area round and will face the Huntsville Hornets (10-1) on Friday, November 23 at NRG Stadium at 12:00 noon.

The final score between Manvel and Barbers Hill was not a true indication of the game that was played.
In the first half, both teams scored multiple times as there were five scores within a 3:28 time span leaving the score tied 28-28 as both team headed to the dressing room at intermission.
It was a first half shootout and appeared that it would continue in the second half. Only problem was that Manvel reloaded their offensive guns while Barbers Hill shot blanks for the most of the second half.
The second half was a different story as the Mavericks defense set the tone for the rest of the game with three third-quarter interceptions with two of them being turned into scores.
Barbers Hill surprised the Mavs with a second-half onside kick they recovered at the Manvel 46. However, Manvel’s Trevion Robertson stepped in front of an Eagle receiver for the first interception.
Nine plays later, Garrison Johnson scored on a 1-yard plunge to break the tie for a 35-28 lead.
Following the ensuing kickoff, Robertson intercepted his second pass, but the Mavs were unable to take advantage of the turnover.
Barbers Hill quarterback, who threw for over 400 yards, fired another pass that was picked off by Kameryn Alexander which set up the Mavs offense at their own 40.
Manvel’s Ladarius Owens was the star of the drive as he ripped off a big run of 20 yards to the Eagles 28. A couple of plays later, QB Josh Coltrin tossed a short pass to Owens who skipped into the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown and a 42-28 lead.
After an exchange of punts, Manvel began their next drive at their own 46. Coltrin hit back-to-back passes of 21 and 27 yards to Eric Hebert and Roland Kimble to the Eagle 11. Owens scored again on an 11-yard run to push the lead to 48-28.
In the final period, Johnson scored on a 2-yard plunge and Owens added his fifth touchdown of the game with a 29-yard pass from Coltrin making the score 62-28.
Coltrin was 28-of-38 passing for 380 yards and four TDs.
Owens had 15 carries for 122 yards and three scores while grabbing three passes for 81 yards and two more scores. Hebert had nine grabs for 96 yards. Kimble had five catches for 65 yards. Jalen Paxton had four catches for 59 yards and one TD.
Barbers Hill scored two harmless touchdowns to finalize the 62-42 score.
Manvel (9-2) moves on to the Class 5A Div. II Region III area round and will face Huntsville on Friday, Nov. 23 at NRG Stadium at 12:00 noon.
