Eleven athletes qualified to compete in the Special Olympics State competition in College Station on October 19-20 and won six gold medals, five silver medals and one bronze medal along with six ribbons. The group were honored at the FISD Board meeting recently and were given Celebration of Excellence Awards.
They had a Unified Team (two Special Olympic athletes and two volunteers) at the State meet for the first time and won Gold in the Unified Medley Relay.
The 11 who qualified include Madison Becker, Aidan Bynum, Audrey Crues, Victor Davis, Johnny Desha, Warren Dunphy-Miller, Faith Lampard, Kristopher House, Amelia Magee, Victoria Slater, and Andy Wang.
Kaylee Odom, Marshall Odom, Abigail Bynum and Jasper House were unified partners.
