Stephanie Wittels Wachs, author of “Everything is Horrible and Wonderful: A Tragicomic Memoir of Genius, Heroin, Love and Loss” will read from and discuss her book at the Pearland Branch Library on Monday, December 10, at 6:30 pm.
The book is a memoir of family, addiction, and grief from the sister of Harris Wittles, the Parks and Recreation writer whose death shocked the comedy world. In beautiful, unsentimental, and surprisingly funny prose, Stephanie Wittels Wachs alternates between her brother’s struggle with addiction, which she learned about three days before her wedding, and the first year after his death, in all its emotional devastation.
The event is co-sponsored by Hoopla Digital, an online service for public libraries that is used by the Brazoria County Library System. Hoopla provides library cardholders access to over 670,000 eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, music albums, movies and television shows with no holds and no waiting. The book is the Spotlight Selection title for their quarterly online book club.
Every 90 days, Hoopla Book Club releases a new Spotlight Selection title, along with eight additional titles. The service not only provides the eBook and audiobook version of the book, but specially-designed discussion guides, access to author interviews, and additional resources.
BACODA, The Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol, will have a table at the event with information on resources to combat drug abuse and addiction, as well as a suggested reading list of additional book titles.
The event is free and open to the public. The Pearland Branch Library is located at 3522 Liberty Drive.
