Katy Blanchard is an asset to the City Friendswood’s Parks and Recreation Department. Always smiling and happy to help, Blanchard is the Recreational Specialist in the department as well as the in-house graphic designer.

Her work and success stories were noticed by a co-worker who nominated her for the Five Star Spirit Award for the third quarter of 2018.

Blanchard was the recipient of the award presented to her at the Dec. 3 meeting of the Friendswood Council.

Blanchard has worked for the city since 2012.

Her co-worker was impressed with the work Blanchard had accomplished on the Friendswood Summer Day Camp (FSDC) program. Blanchard was promoted to oversee the camp and during her first year, she faced many new challenges, according to staff.

Blanchard worked many hours adding new ideas and improving procedures to make the popular and well attended program better for not only the staff working it but also the participants. Summer Camp workers report that Blanchard added new events for campers and staff that proved to be huge successes.

Blanchard was also praised at the council meeting for her graphic design work and the many projects she has assisted with presentations, promotional flyers, and social media posts.

The Five Star Spirit Award has five attributes that council and her co-worker feel Blanchard meets: being Courteous, Competent, Reliable, Professional and Enthusiastic.

Blanchard grew up in Friendswood and is an FHS graduate.
