To prepare for their upcoming awards banquet, the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce needs two things: nominations for Citizen of the Year and auction item donations.

The annual banquet will be Feb. 1 with the reception at 6 p.m. and dinner, auction and program beginning at 7 p.m. The theme is Game Night and it will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 129 CR 146 in Alvin.

The event is held to celebrate members and the leadership of the chamber.

Nominations are requested for Citizen of the Year. In the past, both cities, Manvel and Alvin selected winners. In 2011 the award was given to one person who was selected to represent the Alvin and Manvel area in the award process. Darren Shelton was the 2017 award winner. The other winners included Mike Bass (2011), Mike Merkel (2012), Judy Zavalla (2013), Scot Bryant (2014), Carl Geries (2015), and Chad Fontenot (2016).

Chamber members are asked to vote online or to contact the chamber with their nominations.

Chamber officials will also be honoring retiring board directors and the past chairman as well as welcoming the 2019 board members. Brendon Boyd is the past chair and Scott Salter is the 2019 chair.

Retiring this year off the board are Gabe Adame, Chad Dudley, Bobby Gervais, Dr. Syed Karmi, Yvette Reyes-Hall, Patrick Snider and Betty Thornton.

The event will also recognize the Citizen, Outstanding Leader, Volunteer, Small Business, Large Business and Ambassador of the Year.

Auction items are needed for the event. The item donated could be products, services or something complimentary to an organization.

Donors will be recognized as well as featured in the event program. Items must be received by Jan. 29.

Sponsorships and seating is available.
