Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood has begun its Jubilee Celebration. The church is celebrating 50 years in Friendswood.

The Jubilee officially began at the 11:30 Mass Sunday, Jan. 20. Celebration ceremonies were given by Arch Bishop Fiorenza, MQ Pastor Fr. Jim Kuczynski, Fr. Skip Negley, Bishop Peter, Deacon Chuck Turner, Deacon Paul Robinson, and altar servers.

A Jubilee Committee was created to plan the events that will mark the celebration. Chaired by Steve Ridout, committee members include Fr. Jim Kuczynski, Fr. Sibi Kunninu, Chris Austgen, Nelson Olavarria, Brenda Bueche, Paul and Susan Brown, Don Thomas, Tony Scarpa, Eby Kurian, Leslie Karam, Carla Martin and Paige Ridout.
The parish was founded in 1969.

“The Roman Catholic community of Mary Queen and friends will celebrate 50 years since its founding as a parish in the Galveston Houston diocese on Jan. 21, 1969. Our Jubilee year will be marked by a number of celebratory events and activities throughout the year,” Deacon Turner said.

Mary Queen is located at 606 Cedarwood Drive in Friendswood.
