Pearland, is participating in the seventh-annual IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge. The Challenge kicked off on Jan. 7 but, everyone can still join in by uploading healthy activities to earn points for their community.

Mayor Tom Reid signed the Community Challenge Mayor’s Pledge and committed to transforming the lives and health of Texans in his city.

Reid invites citizens to work together to make 2019 the healthiest year Pearland has seen by staying active, eating healthier, and registering at https://ittcommunitychall-enge.com/en/communities/pearland.

The IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge, presented by H-E-B, is a free 8-week, statewide competition in which Texas communities compete to see which communities can demonstrate the greatest commitment to healthy living.

The 2019 Community Challenge runs from Jan. 7-March 3, until 5 p.m.

The challenge is an initiative created and managed entirely by IT’S TIME TEXAS, an Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that champions the movement for a healthier Texas by making healthy lifestyles more accessible to all Texans.

All sectors of the community can come together to celebrate healthy living. The program offers different ways communities can earn points through dividing into five main sectors: Individuals; School Representatives; Business and Organization Representatives; and Local City Officials.

The community with the most points in each size category will receive an $1,800 community grant to put toward future health-related efforts, along with a trophy, school district banner, Governor’s certificate, web banner and badge, and four free registrations to the 2019 Healthier Texas Summit event.

Runner-ups and School District winners will receive a plaque.

By the end of the competition, there will be thousands of activities submitted to the Challenge website. In order to ensure that all of the content is valid and within the program’s guidelines, contest officials will take a few days to review the site’s content before announcing the winners.

Decisions by the Community Challenge judges are final in all matters. Winners will be announced on the IT’S TIME TEXAS Facebook page.
