City Council approved an ordinance at their regular meeting Feb. 4, to call a General Election to be held on May 4, for the purpose of electing council members in Positions No. 4 and 6.

The city will contract with Galveston County for election services to conduct the city’s General Election. Galveston County purchased a new voting system, which will be utilized for the first time at the May 2019 election.

Friendswood has previously conducted its own elections but due to costs of replacing aging election equipment and the inability of the city’s key equipment no longer functioning with the new voting system, the city opted to contract with the county.

Galveston County has agreed to conduct the election for the entire city, which includes Galveston County and Harris County voters that live in the city limits of Friendswood. County-wide vote centers will be offered so all the city’s registered voters may vote at Friendswood City Hall, as they have always done for the city’s elections, or at one of the other polling locations in Galveston County.

Early voting hours will be Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The voting location in Friendswood will be Friendswood City Hall at 910 S. Friendswood Drive. Other cities in the county where county voters can go include Galveston, Texas City, Jamaica Beach, Crystal Beach, Dickinson, League City, San Leon, Bacliff, Kemah and Bayou Vista.

Early Voting is required to have two – 12 hour days during the early voting period. The ordinance designates Monday, April 29, and Tuesday, April 30, as the two –12 hour days, with hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday early voting will no longer be held as in previous years.

Election Day voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 4.
