Keep Pearland Beautiful is hosting two events on Feb. 16. A Community Wide Cleanup will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and Cigarette Awareness Day in Pearland will take place from noon to 3 p.m.
Volunteers are encouraged to join KPB members to be part of the Adopt A Spot campaign in the city.
The Community Wide Cleanup will kick off with breakfast and supply pick up from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Lone Star Pavilion of Centennial Park at 3219 McLean Rd. The Lone Star Pavilion is the pavilion adjacent to the splash pad. The entrance to the parking lot is near the intersection of Ryan Acres St. and McLean.
All bags and gloves needed for the cleanup will be provided. Volunteers can pick up supplies in Centennial Park the day of the cleanup or arrange to come by the KPB office in the Stella Roberts Recycling Center ahead of the cleanup.
All volunteers are encouraged to share their cleanup photos using #cleanpearland on Instagram, facebook.com/keeppearlandbeautiful, twitter.com/kpbpearland or email to mykpb.com contact information.
At noon, events with Cigarette Awareness Day take place.
The event, sponsored by Keep Pearland Beautiful, involves volunteers who collect cigarette butts from Pearland intersections around the city to make citizens aware of the amount of litter they cause.
Last year, volunteers picked up 21,898 cigarette butts from Pearland intersections.
This year volunteers will receive lunch and a presentation before picking up cigarette litter at assigned intersections. Volunteers will meet at the Stella Roberts Recycling Center at 5800 Magnolia in Pearland. Activities will run from noon to 3 p.m.
Volunteers need to register to participate by going to www.mykpb.org.
All attendees must bring the liability waiver which must be signed by a parent or guardian if participant is under 18 years old.
KPB members remind their community that cigarette litter doesn’t go away on its own.
