The 20th Annual Men Who Cook by the Soroptimist International of Alvin will be Saturday, March 2, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Alvin.
The event that offers tastes of community leaders showing off their culinary skills will begin at 6 p.m.
All proceeds benefit scholarships and local non-profit organizations.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for $250 with reserved tables at $600 and individual tickets at $50.
Community leaders who will be cooking include Gabe Adame, Adam and Todd Arendell, Christian Bacino, Joel Castro, Matt Clark, Daniel Combs, Chad Dudley, Alfred and Paul Froberg, Brian Funke, Lenny Garcia, Eric Goins, Chris Gonzales, Earl Humbird, Kadie Johnstun, Craig Kettler, John Matula, Derrek Orrenmaa, Anthony Phillips, Junru Roland, Joey Saladino, Scott Salter, Jody Schibi, Corey Scopel, Jason Stevens, Geoff Tonini, and Johnny Wennerstrom.
The leaders are getting excited.
Adam Arendell and his brother Todd will be cooking a Chicken and Dumplings entrée and have been busy refining their recipe.
“The secret to chicken and dumplings is a very rich stock. I boil my chicken twice. Boil first, pick chicken off, then boil bones. I really enjoy the fun and camaraderie of this event,” Adam Arendell said.
Alfred and Paul Froberg are another set of brothers who will compete in different categories this year.
Alfred will be cooking with Jody Schibi and they will be using fresh strawberries from Froberg’s Farm to create a jelly roll type strawberry shortcake recipe handed down from his grandmother. This is Alfred’s first year to compete. His brother Paul has competed for the past six years and won each time.
“It’s lots of fun for a good cause,” Alfred Froberg said.
The men will cook in three categories: appetizers, entrees and desserts. Attendees will vote on dishes to win first, second and third places.
