A special retirement ceremony was held recently for Pearland Police Officer Rick Bort.
Family, friends, local dignitaries, and co-workers were on hand to bid him a bittersweet farewell.
Chief of Police Johnny Spires shared heartfelt personal stories about Bort and Mayor Tom Reid read a Proclamation declaring Feb. 21, Ofc. Rick Bort Day in the City of Pearland.
Bort has served Pearland as a police officer for past 30 years. He is a founding member of the Combined Agency Response Team (SWAT) that began in 1992. He was an original member of the SWAT team and the only member to remain on the team since 1992 without a break in service. He served as a team leader, sniper and instructor during his tenure.
He was also Pearland Police Department’s first full time Crime Scene Detective and first full time training officer.
Originally from Ohio, Bort moved to Pearland 31 years ago.
His accomplishments include Officer of the Year 1992, 2013; Medal of Valor Recipient 2013; Multiple Unit Citations; Multiple Accommodations; 100 Club Director; and BCTOA Director.
Bort will enjoy retirement with his wife Chanelle, son Kenneth and wife Lexis, daughter Brittnea Culp and husband Dyllan, and grandchildren Leighton Bort and Kye Culp.
