When members of the Friendswood High School Band started playing in the halls of Friendswood ISD campuses March 29, teachers and administrators recognized it as the visit by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation. It was their annual SurPrize Patrol and checks for teachers were in their hands.

The group of FEF directors presented FISD with $209,078.80 in checks for supplies, classroom equipment, and programs requested by the campuses. FEF funded grants at each campus in varying amounts and the money came from the non-profit who fundraises for FISD and also from their annual Adopt a Grant program.

The successful Adopt a Grant program encourages community interaction with FISD and helps teachers and campuses get additional funding. Each year in its history, funding from the community has increased. Teachers complete grant applications with items and prices for use in their classroom and campus.

The campus breakdown was as follows: Westwood Elementary received $38,490.69 in funding; Cline Elementary received $62,930.61; Bales Intermediate received $16,552.33; Windsong Intermediate received $15,341.08; Friendswood Junior High received $27,933.47; and Friendswood High School received $47,851.62.

After the Adopt a Grant program which opens in December/January was closed, the FEF Grant Committee members met to determine which remaining grants the FEF would fund and then the SurPrize Patrol event was planned.

“None of this would be possible without our incredible donors, supporters and friends of the foundation,” FEF President Kelly Lovell said.
