Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) president Matt Buchanan has been named to the 2019 list of North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers.  The economic developers selected were nominated by their peers in both the economic development industry and the site consultant community. The list reflects individuals selected for excellent practices, innovation and success in building the communities they serve.

The list is developed each year by Consultant Connect, a consulting agency designed to bridge the gap between economic developers and site consultants.

In Pearland, Buchanan directs all business attraction and retention activities for Pearland and is responsible for the overall operations for the Corporation, including business attraction, retention and marketing, transportation, mobility and infrastructure, Lower Kirby Urban Center, and corridors and beautification. These priorities align with the Pearland 20/20 Community Strategic Plan.

Under his leadership, the PEDC has attracted over $700 million in capital investment and recruited several major employers to the community, including Lonza, Endress+Hauser, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corp., Kelsey-Seybold, Merit Medical Systems, Inc., and Dover Energy, PEDC officials report.

“Matt is a remarkable asset to PEDC and the Pearland community as a whole,” Pearland Mayor Tom Reid said.  “It has been a long-standing goal of the city to create a business-friendly community with an outstanding quality of life for its residents, and the numerous economic development successes Pearland has experienced over the past several years are a testament to Matt’s leadership in achieving this goal.”

Established in 1995, the PEDC promotes, assists and enhances the economic development activities and quality of life within Pearland, Texas

“On behalf of the PEDC board of directors, we congratulate Matt on his recognition as one of the top 50 economic developers in North America,” PEDC Chair, Brandon Dansby said.  “Matt’s commitment and efforts to accomplish projects and create opportunities that advance our community’s vision for sustained growth have positioned PEDC as one of the most effective and efficient economic development organizations in the nation.”
