Schrader Park at Lake Friendswood was dedicated to the former Mayor, Paul Schrader on July 3 at the site in Friendswood. Family, friends and former mayors of the city attended.

Current Mayor Mike Foreman told his audience that Schrader was an instrumental part to secure the property by the city. It had been a former sand pit that has now become a large and beautiful recreational area for the community.
“Although many people were involved, it was Paul who led the Friendswood consortium of City officials in meeting with, and corresponding with, the Galveston County Beach Parks Board and the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation, to make it possible,: Foreman said. “There were times when less determined people would have given up, but not Paul and his team. They made it a reality. Their efforts will have perpetual benefit to our community.”
Former mayors who attended the dedication included Kevin Holland, Dave Smith, Kim Brizendine, and Harold Whitaker. The former mayors served on a committee to determine and recommend the renaming.

The renaming was considered and approved by Friendswood City Council. The committee had previously recommended the renaming of the Stevenson Park Gazebo for Paul Schrader but tabled the recommendation and relocated the renaming.

A section of Lake Friendswood was named Schrader Park at Lake Friendswood. A dedication ceremony was held recently and was attended by Mayor Mike Foreman and former Mayors Dave Smith, Kevin Holland, Paul Schrader for whom the park was named, Harold Whitaker, and Kim Brizendine.
