Friendswood Public Library was the city site for a recent regional roundtable discussion held by Friendswood in partnership with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC). HGAC members from the 13 county region attended a full house workshop in order to network about best practices, to learn what Friendswood has done and to learn how HGAC can help individual cities and organizations accomplish goals or create strategies.
Mayor Mike Foreman opened the meeting, welcomed particpants and told how and why he chose Friendswood as his residence and eventually became mayor.
Cobb Fendley & Associates, a civil engineering firm in Pearland sponsored the breakfast prepared by Brian Campbell of Buffalo Catering.
Local resident Brett Banfield, president of the Friends of Downtown Friendswood organization gave a PowerPoint presentation about the group, how and why it was started, where they started from, where they have come to and where they are going in the future. He shared highlights about local activities held downtown including ice cream socials, farm to table dinners, and the outdoor music festival.
Local resident Ron Cox who served as the first president of the Friendswood Economic Development Corporation gave a presentation on the creation of the group, its challenges and its accomplishments and highlighted the current projects that are underway.
Isaac Perez, senior business developer for HGAC gave a summary presentation on the loans and grants provided by his organization to help small businesses and organizations succeed .
The workshop ended with questions and networking among participants from the region.
