In reviewing his first year of work at the Adult Education Center (formerly the Adult Reading Center), President and CEO Ernest Lewis III has compiled the year’s impact through statistical information regarding the work the center has completed.
He is both grateful and pleased at the level of support from the community.
During 2018-2019, 605 adult learners were served through the center’s flagship programs.
In hours, 38,694 instructional hours were delivered through paid instruction and through volunteerism. The total cost benefit returned to the community is $948,325. This amount includes volunteer support and allocated AEC resources.
High School Equivalency Certificate/Credential was earned by 26 graduates. The naturalization process along with citizenship was earned by 15 adult learners and seven adult learners completed their Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification.
Lewis reports that 67 percent of the adult learners advanced at least one academic level and made significant progress toward their goals.
He also documented that 125 volunteers were part of the process last year and helped AEC improve lives and build a better community.
“The Board of Directors and the staff of the Adult Education Center are proud to enter into the next chapter of our extensive history with a robust three-year strategic plan,” Lewis said. “In 2019-2020, we are building on the momentum of securing resources and forging progressive partnerships to deepen our services and reach.”
AEC is located at 2246 N. Washington Avenue in Pearland.
